Genesis unveils off-road-ready GV70 SUV concept

Built in partnership with off-road specialist Delta 4x4, this GV70 concept shows what could become of the luxurious SUV.

The European division of Hyundai-owned luxury-car brand Genesis has unveiled an off-road-ready concept based on its GV70 concept named ‘Project Overland’.

Prepared for the upcoming Essen motor show in Germany, the GV70 Project Overland has been built in partnership with German off-road company Delta 4x4, and fitted with several modifications of rough-terrain driving.

According to the Delta 4x4 website, the Genesis GV70 Project Overland features suspension which has been raised by 50mm, and a wheel track that has been widened by the same amount.

Inside the new wheel-arch extensions sit a set of 18-inch wheels wrapped in Continental all-terrain tyres.

It also features a roof rack designed specifically for the GV70, which features two LED light bars, storage boxes, two pairs of plastic recovery tracks, and a spade.

A set of “Baja style” LED lights have also been incorporated into the front bumper.

Though Delta 4x4 didn’t reveal any details about the engine of Project Overland, the ‘2.2D’ badge at the rear of the SUV indicates it is powered by a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine.

This diesel engine makes 154kW and 440Nm, but is no longer offered with the GV70 in Australia.

In Australia, the GV70 is available with two petrol engine options, both with standard all-wheel drive: a 2.5-litre turbo four-cylinder which produces 224kW and 422Nm, and a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine with 279kW/530Nm.

Both make use of an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Genesis Europe says the GV70 Project Overland will make its public debut during the Essen motor show in Germany, which kicks off on December 1, European time.
