Ford’s second car program detailed
Short-term Mustang loans for Ranger, Escape owners.
Ford has released full details surrounding a world-first scheme giving customers access to an innovative car-sharing service.
Ranger and Escape customers can buy in to “2nd Car” when purchasing a new vehicle, enrolling them in a program that allows access to new Mustangs for up to two weeks during the first two years of ownership.
Ford charges $500 for access to the scheme. Ranger owners then pay $250 to rent a Mustang for one week, or $500 for two weeks. People who own an escape SUV can hand over $375 or $750 for one or two weeks with the machine.
Those rates are significantly cheaper than the $1400 or so Hertz charges to rent a Mustang for a week in Sydney, lining up with what rental agencies charge to hire out a basic economy car.
Ford says the Australian pilot program may grow to include other vehicles, or spread to other countries.
