Ford’s Mustang Mach-E reimagined as Dakar racer
The upcoming electric SUV gets an off-road-friendly, rally-inspired makeover.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is yet to arrive in showrooms globally, but already it's spawning spin-off versions – like these renderings that reimagine the electric crossover as a Dakar Rally racer.
Digital designer Mo Aoun created a few different versions of the Mustang Mach-E, all boasting off-road-ready body kit with performance credentials.
The first render, shared to Aoun's Instagram account, gains more ground clearance, bigger tyres, a meaner-looking front end with winch bar and a roof-mounted row of rally lights, plus the addition of a 'Ford Performance' badge on the bonnet.
A second, even more aggressively-designed version adds green racing livery and a large bash plate.
Aoun's final incarnation of the Mach-E looks more like the original, but with its streamlined body and lower roofline contrasted with its dramatically raised suspension and huge tyres.
The renderings preceded Ford's July 21 unveiling of a race-ready prototype of the Mustang Mach-E GT, developed in collaboration with performance tuner RTR Vehicles to showcase the potential performance credentials of Ford's new era of electrification.
Employing seven electric motors to create rocket-like propulsion, the Mustang Mach-E 1400, as its name suggests, is capable of generating 1400 horsepower, or 1043kW.
"Now is the perfect time to leverage electric technology, learn from it, and apply it to our line-up,” Ron Heiser, Mustang Mach-E chief program engineer, said of the Mach-E 1400.
“Mustang Mach-E is going to be fun to drive, just like every other Mustang before it, but Mustang Mach-E 1400 is completely insane, thanks to the efforts of Ford Performance and RTR.”

The United Kingdom will be the first right-hand drive market to receive the Mach-E later this year, but it's possible Australia will follow.
In the UK, pricing for the electric crossover will kick off from the equivalent of just over AU$81,000.
