Electric vehicle charging stations to roll out at major shopping centres

Charging your electric vehicle is becoming more accessible, with 16 major shopping centres to roll out fast charging stations over the next month.

Major retail property group AMP Capital has partnered with charging operator Evie Networks to assemble charging stations at major shopping centres in Australia and New Zealand.

A total of 16 electric vehicle charging sites will roll out at AMP Capital's centres across NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia and New Zealand over the next month.

Sites already active include Macquarie, Randwick, Marrickville Metro and Dapto in NSW, with Stud Park and Malvern, Victoria to open soon.

Evie's sites are believed to use 50kW DC fast chargers – able to add 150km of driving range to some electric vehicles in 30 minutes.

"Making fast-charging a seamless part of customers’ shopping experiences will help advance our mission to accelerate the adoption of EVs in Australia," said Evie Networks CEO, Chris Mills.

"If we want to move towards a cleaner transport future, people need to be confident that they can travel with the knowledge they can charge whenever and wherever they need."

The initial phase will consist of 32 charging bays at the 16 shopping centres, with the intention to increase the number of bays available depending on consumer demand.

The installation also includes a specialised highway configuration at Ocean Keys Shopping Centre in WA. This will mean that those travelling to and from metropolitan Perth will be able to charge their vehicles with a DC ultra-fast charger in as little as 15 minutes.

Users will need to have access to the Evie app in order to charge and make payments at sites.
