Daihatsu stand at Tokyo Motor Show
While the Daihatsu brand may have shut-up-shop here in Australia, the brand is going from strength to strength in its home country of Japan.
Popular box-styled vehicles, a staple of big-city markets, were proudly on display at the Daihatsu stand along side the quirky new Basket open-top model and environmentally friendly e:S model.
The Basket (as pictured above) is an open-top four-seater designed to "enjoy the slow pace of life in close contact with nature". A removable hard-top is also available. The Basket's rear seats can also be folded flat to turn the car into a utility vehicle.
The e:S model focuses its purpose on minimising environmental factors such as fuel consumption and CO2 output while utilising existing technologies. A combined fuel economy figure of just 3.3L/100km has been achieved.
A four-seater, the e:S boasts a tare weight of just 700kg thanks to the use of slim, leightweight seats and the substitution of many traditional materials with light-weight ones.
e:S also uses stop-start technology and a unique combustion control system, specially developed by Daihatsu.
