BMW has unveiled its new 2 Series Convertible this week, which debuts as the third model line in the new even-numbered range.
But while the new convertible’s debut follows that of the 2 Series Coupe and the 2 Series Active Tourer, it’s the former to which this new droptop is a true companion.
Because while the Active Tourer is a comparatively dowdy front-wheel-drive minivan, this new Bimmer is of the ‘proper’ rear-wheel-drive lifestyle variety.
Its styling is also more in line with the sharp eagle-eyed look of the still-new 2 Series Coupe, with only the absent fixed roof standing out as the obvious difference.
Replacing the older-generation 1 Series Convertible that found more than 130,000 homes over its six-year life, the new topless 2 is both longer and wider than its predecessor.
Measuring 4432mm long and 1774mm wide, the new 2 Convertible grows by 72 and 26mm respectively. It also boasts wider front and rear tracks, increased by 41 and 43mm over the previous droptop.
BMW says the extra length - which is on top of a 30mm longer 2690mm wheelbase - has resulted in improved interior space and, at 335 litres, a full 30 litres more room in the boot.
