BMW's new 1 Series Sedan has reared its head again this week, tearing around the Nurburgring in revised camouflage.
Destined to take on Audi A3 Sedan and Mercedes-Benz’s CLA, the new compact BMW four-door is expected to debut sometime in 2016.
An earlier debut had been expected, but, speaking with TMR, BMW Australia product boss Shawn Ticehurst confirmed the new front-wheel-drive sedan won't debut until the current rear-wheel-drive hatch is replaced.
"This current car was only launched in 2011 so it’s still got good life left in it, it’s still a fresh car," Ticehurst said.
"But as we replace models within that segment, starting with X1, you will start to begin seeing front-wheel drive on more cars."
