Bentley introduces ‘airline seating’ in its cars

The brand claims it's the most advanced seat ever fitted to a production vehicle.

Bentley claims it has created the most advanced seat ever fitted to a vehicle.

Dubbed 'Airline Seat Specification', the unique pews offered exclusively in the upcoming 2023 Bentley Bentayga EWB (extended wheelbase) can do everything from measuring the surface of its leather skin – and the surrounding humidity – to twisting your body to keep you fatigue free.

The first system uses surface-mounted temperature sensors on the underside of the leather to "constantly measure both passenger contact surface temperature and humidity level, to an incredible accuracy of 0.1 [degrees] every 25 milliseconds."

That means no more sticky body parts on an Aussie summer's day. And in case the computer's single setting isn't suited to your personal body type and running temp, there are seven other carefully-calibrated set points to help the seat's computer better understand you.

The second system integrates 177 points of independent pressure adjustment across the seat, meaning it can apply a "three-dimensional twist" to "relieve (common) pressure points."

Like the climate control system, experts are always one press away. Bentley not only worked with Chiropractors, but also Comfort Motion Global (CMG) – a leading developer of anti-fatigue seat systems for the trucking industry – to develop the seat's standard anti-fatigue program.

They can also "morph" in shape to suit different body types. Aside from 12 electric motors, three intelligent pneumatic valves and numerous other components, the whole lot is managed by a single "Seat Motion & Wellbeing ECU".

Drive has contacted Bentley Australia to confirm local launch timing for the 2023 Bentley Bentayga EWB.
