Aston Martin confirms power output for hypercar

The British car maker has kept most of the details under wraps until now, with the announcement of its powerful F1-inspired engine.

Co-developed with performance engine builder Cosworth, the naturally-aspirated engine that Aston calls an 'absolute masterpiece’ is a huge 6.5-litre V12 engine.

With 745kW and a peak torque output of 740Nm available at 7,000rpm, it keeps going right up to a maximum of 11,100rpm. Aston Martin says the new power figures are unprecedented for a naturally-aspirated, emissions-compliant road car application.

The new engine is also set to get a boost from a battery hybrid system, but Aston won’t reveal detailed specs until later in the supercar's development program.

The engine has also been designed to optimise minimum mass and maximum strength, with a majority of its internals machined from solid material including titanium conrods and F1TM-spec pistons.

Aston Martin’s Valkyrie will be available in road-registrable form as well as a race track-ready version.
