2024 Land Rover Defender price and specs: New models and engines

The Land Rover Defender range has been tweaked and expanded for 2024, adding new engines, trim options, and a 'Hard Top' van version of the 110 five-door.

  • 2024 Land Rover Defender pricing and specifications
  • Base Defender spec level axed, price of entry rises by $8450
  • New plug-in hybrid powertrain and County edition
  • Priced from $90,400 plus on-road costs

The 2024 Land Rover Defender range – due to arrive in Australia later in 2023 – has been upgraded with a host of new models.

Following the recent introduction of the eight-seat Defender 130, Land Rover's most off-road-focused model gains the option of plug-in hybrid power and new special trim levels.

Prices have risen by $250 on carry-over variants – but the axing of the base Defender grade, and replacement of the SE with the X-Dynamic SE means the price of entry has been hiked by $8450.

The Defender 110 gets a heritage-inspired County appearance pack in S P300 and P400 forms, while the Defender 130 gets an adventure-focused, five-seat Outbound model, and the option of a V8 variant.

Land Rover has also introduced the commercial-grade Defender 110 Hard Top D250 S variant, which is a stripped-back two-seat model with a large van-like load space in the rear, as well as an increased payload.

The base eponymous Defender trim level has been axed for 2024, with the range now opening with the S. This means the starting price has risen by $8450, but the new base variant is better equipped than its forebear.

The mid-trim SE has been replaced with a new X-Dynamic SE variant, which is $4050 to $4550 more expensive across 90, 110 and 130 body styles. However, it also gains a handful of new features as part of the price rise.

The higher-grade Defender X specification – now available exclusively in five-door 110 form, as the three-door 90 X has been axed – is now $1050 cheaper than it was in 2023, despite gaining a 15-speaker Meridian surround sound system.

There are now 20 variants in the 2024 Land Rover Defender range, shared across 90, 110 and 130 bodies. A full standard feature list is at the bottom of this story.

They are available with a range of 'Ingenium' turbocharged four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, plus a trio of V8 models powered by the brand's long-serving 5.0-litre supercharged V8.

Entry-level 'P300' models continue to use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which makes 221kW/400Nm.

The cheapest 'D250' diesel models use a six-cylinder 3.0-litre turbo engine that makes 183kW and 570Nm.

This is only available in the Defender 90 S and 110 Hard Top S models, with more powerful mild-hybrid six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines covering the majority of higher-grade trim levels.

The P400 six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine makes 294kW/550Nm, while the D300 diesel six-cylinder makes 221kW/650Nm.

A plug-in hybrid Defender P400e – which makes 297kW/640Nm of combined outputs – also joins the Australian range for the first time (click here for more details).

At the top of the pile – reserved for only the most expensive models – is the 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8, which makes 386kW/625Nm in the 90 and 110, or 368kW/610Nm in the longer Defender 130.

The cheapest Land Rover Defender variant is now equipped with a 360-degree camera, 12-inch digital instrument cluster, tyre pressure monitoring, wireless phone charging, dusk-sensing headlights, and rain-sensing wipers.

The 2024 Land Rover Defender range is due in Australian showrooms later in 2023.
