2024 Land Rover Defender 130 to get supercharged V8 power

The eight-seat Land Rover Defender 130 will have the option of supercharged petrol V8 power in 2024, and will come with an epic price to match its epic power: $237,900 before on-road costs locally.

Following the V8-powered Defender 90 and 110 (which is referred to internally as P525), a new 'P500' option for the Defender will use Jaguar Land Rover's long-serving 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8.

The engine is tuned to deliver 368kW and 610Nm in the Defender 130, running through the same eight-speed automatic gearbox and a 0-100km/h time in a claimed 5.7 seconds, making it a fraction slower than the Mercedes-AMG G63, its closest rival.

The supercharged V8 joins the exisiting six-cylinder P400 petrol (294kW/550Nm) and D300 diesel (220kW/650Nm) options for the Defender 130.

However, the supercharged V8 in the Defender 130 has less power than the 386kW/625Nm outputs in V8-powered Defender 110 and 90 models.

The price – currently the most expensive of the Land Rover Defender family – makes it more than $100,000 more expensive than the Defender 130 SE, with either P400 and D300 six-cylinder powertrains.

The 2024 Land Rover Defender 130 V8 will only come in Carpathian Grey and Santorini Black, and will be distinguished by a quad exhaust system, V8 badging and matrix LED headlights. There's also privacy glass and 22-inch satin dark grey alloy wheels.

The cabin comes with heated and cooled front seats, with 14-way electric adjustment and memory for the driver. There's also heating for the second and third rows of seating, an upgraded Meridian sound system and an 11.4-inch infotainment display.

All prices above exclude on-road costs such as registration, stamp duty and dealer delivery fees.
