2024 Honda Prologue electric SUV borrows from General Motors

The 2024 Honda Prologue has been detailed, with the electric SUV – created in partnership with General Motors – to go on sale in North America from early next year.

Honda says the new Prologue will offer a claimed 480 kilometres of zero-emissions driving (EPA test cycle) from its 85kWh lithium-ion battery, and will be available in both front- and all-wheel drive formats.

However the first electric vehicle for Honda in Australia isn't due until 2028 at the earliest – and it is unlikely to be the Prologue, given it is currently built only in left-hand drive in North America.

The Prologue – which is approximately 200mm longer and 127mm wider than the new CR-V – is based on General Motors' BEV3 electric-car architecture, which underpins the Cadillac Lyriq and forthcoming Chevrolet Blazer EV.

However, Cadillac could launch a BEV3-based electric car in Australia before Honda, with Drive uncovering local trademark filings from General Motors for the Lyriq – as well as other battery-powered models – and a right-hand-drive Lyriq has been spotted testing.

Power for the front-wheel-drive Prologue will be confirmed closer to the SUV's launch, but Honda says the dual-motor version – offering one electric motor on each axle – produces a combined 215kW and 451Nm.

Three variants will be available: the entry-level EX, mid-grade Touring, and the range-topping Elite.

All models come with an 11.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 11-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, while the Elite gains a head-up display.

The Elite also comes with 21-inch wheels – up from 19 inches – with Honda promising "self-sealing tyres".

The Prologue can accommodate DC fast charging up to 155kW, allowing it to gain approximately 105 kilometres of range in 10 minutes.

Pricing has yet to be announced for the 2024 Honda Prologue, but it's estimated the model will start from about $US48,000 – or $AU74,500 – for the single-motor EX.
