2024 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro family SUV due in Australia later this year

The second model from Chinese car-maker Chery – since returning to Australia earlier this year after a seven-year absence – is due in the coming months.

The 2024 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro mid-size SUV from China is on track for in Australian showrooms later this year with petrol power.

The Tiggo 7 Pro is the second model from Chery since it returned to Australia earlier this year – after a seven-year absence – and sits above the Omoda 5 small SUV in the line-up.

It is a small to mid-size SUV, slightly larger than a Toyota Corolla Cross, Nissan Qashqai or Haval Jolion, but slightly smaller than a Mazda CX-5 or Volkswagen Tiguan.

The Tiggo 7 Pro has been sold in China since 2020, however the model bound for Australia has been updated with a new front fascia design, and a more modern dashboard similar to the Omoda 5, with design cues similar to the latest Kia models.

There will be three model grades initially: the front-wheel-drive Urban, front-wheel-drive Elite and all-wheel-drive Ultimate.

All versions will be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. In Chinese models it develops 147kW and 290Nm, matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Prices and standard equipment lists are due closer to launch.

Features visible in Chery's initial images of an Australian model include 18-inch alloy wheels, leather-look seat upholstery, large infotainment and instrument displays, satellite navigation, 360-degree cameras, and wireless smartphone charging.

Chery Australia says the 2024 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is due in local showrooms "later this year". Given the image show an Australian-specification model on New South Wales registration, a local launch is expected sooner rather than later.

It is due to be followed by the end of the year by a 1.6-litre turbo version of the Omoda 5 small SUV, as well as the larger, Mitsubishi Outlander-sized Tiggo 8 Pro SUV.
