2024 Chery Omoda 5 prices rise, more powerful GT models added
The Chery Omoda 5 budget-priced SUV range from China has gained more powerful GT versions, and new features – but higher prices.
The 2024 Chery Omoda 5 small SUV range has expanded with new GT flagship editions – alongside specification updates and the second price rise in 12 months for the other two models in the line-up.
Priced from $38,990 drive-away with front-wheel drive, or $41,490 drive-away with all-wheel drive, the GT variants bring more power and torque from a larger engine than the cheaper Omoda 5 BX and EX, plus unique badging.
The 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine develops 137kW/275Nm – up from the BX and EX's 108kW/210Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine – matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Fuel consumption is claimed by Chery as 6.8 litres per 100km for the front-wheel-drive model – down from 6.9L/100km for the 1.5-litre front-wheel-drive version – or 7.4L/100km with all-wheel drive.
Price rises have been applied to the rest of the Omoda 5 line-up, with the BX now $1500 more expensive, and the EX now $1000 dearer.
It is the second round of price rises since the Omoda 5 launched 10 months ago, after increases of $100 to $1000 in June 2023 as part of a move from nationwide drive-away prices, from those which vary between states and territories.
To coincide with the price rise, new features for Model Year 2024 Chery Omoda 5 SUVs include digital radio, a frameless rear-view mirror with auto dimming, and a more powerful 50-watt wireless phone charger. GT models wear GT badges on the tailgate.
It's unclear if all of the above additions will be standard across the line-up.
Front-wheel-drive 2024 Chery Omoda 5 SUVs are due in Australian showrooms for test drives from the middle of this month, ahead of the all-wheel-drive version of the GT in February.
Chery Australia says stock of the 2023 Omoda 5 remains, and vehicles "purchased prior to January 31 ... will receive a $1500 factory bonus" (click here for more details).
