The 2024 Audi SQ8 E-Tron – the successor to the E-Tron S – has been priced for Australia, due to arrive in local showrooms between April and June 2024 at a $8000 premium over its predecessor.

Adopting Audi’s new electric SUV nomenclature, the SQ8 E-Tron replaces the previous-generation E-Tron S, though the new model is still available in both a traditional ‘wagon’ and coupe-like ‘Sportback’ body styles.

Priced from $173,600 and $180,600 plus on-road costs respectively, the Audi SQ8 E-Tron and SQ8 Sportback E-Tron are $8025 more expensive than their predecessors, owing to a longer claimed driving range for the SUV.

Where the Audi E-Tron S used an 86kWh lithium-ion battery to power its three electric motors, the SQ8 E-Tron is fitted with a 106kWh nickel-cobalt-aluminium battery.

As such, Audi’s driving range claims have risen to 494km and 513km for the SQ8 wagon and Sportback (up from 374km and 379km), while the new battery is also capable of being charged at up to 170kW (up from 150kW).

Another factor behind the increased driving range is a more aerodynamic exterior, with minor changes contributing to a slightly lower drag coefficient.

The Audi SQ8 E-Tron’s power comes from an unchanged tri-motor layout – with one electric motor connected to each rear wheel, and one powering the front axle – which produce up to 370kW and 973Nm.

Inside, the E-Tron S’s 12.3-inch digital dash, 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8.6-inch touchscreen for air-conditioning controls carry over to the SQ8 E-Tron, complemented by Valcona leather, a 16-speaker Bang and Olufsen sound system and four-zone climate control.

The 2024 Audi SQ8 E-Tron is due in Australian showrooms throughout the second quarter of 2024 (April to June inclusive).
