2023 Toyota Corolla set for power and tech boost this year, amid Toyota range updates

The 2023 Toyota Corolla will gain a round of upgrades later this year – including a power boost for the hybrid – alongside mild updates for the Yaris, Yaris Cross, C-HR, and Camry.

Confirmed for launch in the second half of 2022, the Corolla hatch and sedan range will benefit from a slew of updates, including Toyota's latest infotainment software, joined by USB-C ports, and Toyota Connected Services technology.

Rumours suggest the updated firmware – which has already debuted in Europe – could run on an 8.0-inch screen as standard, with the possible option of a larger 10.5-inch display, also set to feature in the updated RAV4 SUV later this year.

While yet to be confirmed by Toyota Australia, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is also rumoured to be offered on higher-grade variants – including the GR Corolla hot hatch flagship, due in late showrooms in late 2022.

Alongside these upgrades, Toyota Australia has confirmed hybrid variants will receive an 8kW power boost to 98kW, expected to come from an updated 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a more powerful electric motor and battery pack.

Both hatch and sedan body styles are set to benefit from "exterior styling tweaks", including new alloy wheel designs and an updated colour palette.

Rumours out of Japan suggest the headlights and tail-lights will be revised (imagined at the top of this story) – possibly in line with the GR Corolla, as reported by Drive last month – plus a new front grille insert and reshaped rear bumper.

Upgrades to the Toyota Safety Suite driver assistance technologies are also rumoured overseas, though it's unclear how these will manifest.

Alongside the Corolla's more comprehensive mid-life update, Toyota Australia has confirmed updates will be applied to the Yaris Cross, Yaris hatch, C-HR small SUV, GR Supra sports car and Camry sedan in the second half of this year.

The Yaris Cross will gain "improved technology and a refreshed style", which will include black leather-accented upholstery for the flagship Urban, though it's unclear if this replaces or sits alongside the current model's controversial brown trim.

As reported last week, the GR Supra will add the option of a manual transmission, alongside a new 19-inch alloy wheel design, available tan leather upholstery, and three new exterior colours.

Meanwhile, the Yaris, Yaris Cross, C-HR and Camry will gain an "updated exterior colour range that introduces a raft of new colours and finishes", according to Toyota Australia.
