2023 BMW M3 CS due to be revealed later this month – report

The 2023 BMW M3 CS – a more hardcore variant of the German performance sedan – is due to be revealed between January 27 and 29, according to overseas reports.

BMW Blog reports the German car-maker will unveil the M3’s ‘Competition Sport’ variant at the Daytona 24 Hour motor race in the US later this month, before the car is due to enter production in March 2023.

In December 2022, BMW insider information which appeared on the Bimmerpost forums suggested production of the M3 CS is expected to begin in March 2023, with the high-performance sedan set to be based on the M3’s all-wheel-drive ‘Competition xDrive’ variant.

The Bimmerpost report claims the BMW M3 CS’s twin-turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine will produce up to 405kW, matching the M4 CSL coupe and providing a 30kW increase compared to the M3 Competition xDrive.

While BMW put the M4 CSL on a crash diet – tipping the scales 100kg lighter than the standard M4 – the M3 CS is not expected to drop as much weight as its coupe sibling.

The previous-generation BMW M3 CS was launched in 2018, limited to 1200 units worldwide and offering a 50kg saving compared to the base M3. 

In Australia, the 2018 BMW M3 CS was priced from $179,529 plus on-road costs – $33,000 more than the M3 Competition at the time.

The 2023 BMW M3 sedan is currently priced from $153,500 plus on-road costs in rear-wheel-drive, manual guise while the flagship Competition xDrive automatic costs $169,500.
