Australian details of the 2022 Lexus NX have been revealed, ahead of the new-generation medium SUV's showroom arrival in January 2022.

A slight delay from the November 2021 timing initially announced by Lexus at the vehicle's reveal in June, the new NX's arrival has been pushed back "to assist with anticipated high demand" for the new luxury medium SUV – which, upon its launch, will be offered with a choice of three powertrains and up to three equipment levels, depending on spec.

Pricing is yet to be confirmed, however increases for NX350 and NX350h variants are expected over the NX300 and NX300h versions of the outgoing model, priced from $57,500 and $60,500 before on-road costs respectively.

The NX350h hybrid is expected to be the best-selling variant, pairing a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery to produce 179kW (up from 147kW in the outgoing NX300h). Available in front- and all-wheel drive, combined claimed fuel consumption is as low as 5.0 litres per 100 kilometres.

The NX250 represents the entry-level powertrain, mating a 2.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission to send 152kW and 243Nm to the front wheels, and consume 6.9L/100km on the combined cycle.

The NX350 sits atop the petrol-only range, powered by a new 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder sending 205kW and 430Nm to the road through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic and standard all-wheel drive.

Luxury, F Sport and Sports Luxury variants will be available, though not all equipment levels will be offered with all powertrains (detailed in a list towards the bottom of this story).

A full list of standard equipment is included at the bottom of this story, however highlights on the Luxury grade include a 9.8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation, LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, electric heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a power tailgate.

A full suite of active safety technology is standard across the range, including autonomous emergency braking with intersection support, adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, blind-spot monitoring, traffic-sign recognition, and more.

Stepping up to the NX F Sport adds a larger 14-inch touchscreen, 20-inch alloy wheels, tri-beam LED headlights, front seat ventilation, a colour head-up display, wireless phone charging, F Sport exterior and interior styling, and more.

Meanwhile, the flagship Sports Luxury misses out on the F Sport-specific features of the variant below it – including adaptive dampers, F Sport exterior and interior elements, performance chassis dampers and sports seats – but adds features including a digital rear-view mirror and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.

The 2022 Lexus NX range will go on sale in Australia in January, with pricing and full specifications to be announced closer to launch.
