2022 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake, G80 Sport delayed

The Korean luxury brand's sporty new passenger cars have been delayed for a few months.


The 2022 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake wagon and 2022 Genesis G80 Sport sedan have been delayed for Australia, with launches of the sporty duo pushed back by a few months.

A Genesis Australia spokesperson confirmed to Drive the G70 Shooting Brake will lob in November or December 2021, followed by the G80 Sport in January 2022 – delays from the third quarter of 2021 (July to September) timing initially earmarked, before later timelines pushed the G70 wagon to October, and the sportier G80 to the fourth quarter.

Australian pricing and specifications will be confirmed closer to launch – but for a summary of what to expect, we've bundled the key information you need to know beneath the subheadings below.


2022 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake

Despite the Shooting Brake moniker typically being associated with a two-door car, the G70 Shooting Brake is little more than a wagon version of the Genesis brand's mid-size car, the G70 sedan.

Revealed in May, the G70 Shooting Brake extends the sedan's roofline for a 40 per cent increase in boot capacity, and a taller rear end pitched specifically at the European market.

However, its European focus means the G70 wagon will be offered solely with a 179kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine in Australia, leaving the sedan's 274kW/510Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 off limits to the wagon.


2022 Genesis G80 Sport

Following in the tyre tracks of the G70 and GV70 Sport, the new G80 Sport is the more dynamic version of the Korean brand's large G80 luxury sedan.

Whereas the previous-generation G80 Sport sold in overseas markets brought a significant increase in performance (with an exclusive engine), the new G80 Sport is largely a visual package, adding a new front bumper, dark chrome and black exterior highlights, new 20-inch alloy wheels, an exclusive three-spoke steering wheel, and unique upholstery options.

Available with 224kW/422Nm 2.5-litre turbo four-cylinder or 279kW/530Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engines (following the axing of diesel power), mechanical changes are limited to a rear-wheel steering system, stiffer suspension tune, and launch control for the V6 model that cuts two tenths off the 0-100km/h time (to 4.9 seconds).
