- Choice of two engines
- Plenty of tech and safety gear
- Priced from $24,990 drive-away
While Drive and other media are preparing road tests to be published on Friday once the local embargo lifts, the Kia Australia website has revealed early the initial pricing and specifications.
According to the website, Kia will offer the Stonic initially in two variants: the Stonic Sport from $24,990 drive-away, and the range-topping Stonic GT-Line from $29,990 drive-away.
A more affordable S model is expected to join the line-up in the coming months.
The Sport is offered with a 1.4-litre petrol four-cylinder engine offering 74kW of power at 6000rpm and 133Nm of torque at 4000rpm. Fuel economy is claimed at a combined 6.7 litres per 100 kilometres, producing 155 grams of CO2 per kilometre.
Drive is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual, or an optional six-speed automatic.
The Stonic GT-Line (pictured at top) gets a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol three-cylinder engine, producing 74kW at 4500-6000rpm and 172Nm at 1500-4000rpm. Combined fuel economy is a claimed 5.4L/100km, putting out 125g/km of CO2.
A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is the sole transmission option in the GT-Line.
Inside, the Stonic Sport gets black cloth trim, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capability, multiple Bluetooth connections, rear-view parking camera and sensors, six-speaker sound system, keyless entry, push-button start, high-beam assist, cruise control, two USB and two 12-volt chargers, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and a 60:40 split folding rear seat.
The Stonic GT-Line adds premium black upholstery, sports steering wheel, alloy sports pedals, automatic climate control, and a tilt-and-slide sunroof.
All models come standard with a suite of safety tech, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist recognition, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, driver attention alert, leading vehicle departure alert, hill-start assist, speed-sensing auto door locks, two Isofix positions, and front, side, and curtain airbags.
Also standard across both models are electric folding heated mirrors and a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, and the option of seven colours: Clear White, Silky Silver, Perennial Grey, Aurora Black Pearl, Signal Red, Sporty Blue, and Mighty Yellow.
Those who opt for the Stonic GT-Line also get LED daytime-running lights, fog-lamps, special 17-inch alloy wheels, rear diffuser with twin exhaust tips, and a choice of four two-tone colour options: Clear White, Mighty Yellow, Sporty Blue, and Signal Red – all matched with a Black Pearl roof.
All with all Kia models, the Stonic comes with a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre factory warranty and capped-price servicing.
