2020-2023 Toyota Yaris recalled as the front suspension could collapse

More than 7600 examples of the current-generation Toyota Yaris have been recalled due to a risk of front suspension failure, attributed to a manufacturing defect.

Toyota Australia has recalled 7633 examples of its 2020-2023 Toyota Yaris hatch, following the discovery of a manufacturing defect which could cause the city car's front suspension to collapse.

The recall affects both regular petrol and hybrid versions of Toyota's fourth-generation Yaris – but not the GR Yaris hot hatch, or the Yaris Cross SUV – which have recorded more than 9000 sales in Australia since they arrived in late 2020.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing defect, small cracks may form in the front lower suspension arms when driving on rough (corrugated) roads.

"As a result, the suspension may collapse or detach from the vehicle. If this occurs, the vehicle may experience a sudden loss of steering control.

"A loss of steering control could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users."
