MINI has lifted the lid on its all-new Countryman ‘SUV’, including the first-ever plug-in hybrid for the small car brand.
Teased last week, the new PHEV’s full name is the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 (we’ll call it the Countryman E…), and it gives customers a chance to experience emissions-free driving in a MINI model for the first time using the 65kW/165Nm electric motor.
That motor shares the duties of forward propulsion with a 100kW/220Nm three-cylinder petrol engine, with the pair offering up a combined 165kW of power and 385Nm of torque.
Power is distributed to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission, with the petrol engine driving the front wheels and the electric motor driving the rear. In EV mode, a two-stage, single-speed automatic is in use.
