2017 Holden Astra sedan prices revealed

Lion brand adds sedan variant to small car range.

Holden's new small sedan is about to cruise back into its local line-up.

The soon to be former Australian car maker is preparing to launch the four-door version of its Astra hatch.

Sourced from South Korean, the new Astra sedan is related to the European-sourced hatch version but is more of a cousin than a sibling as it is effectively known as Cruze in all other markets.

However, Holden has done extensive testing and tuning to calibrate the Astra sedan to Australian conditions.

The sedan range will consist of four-tiers starting with the base LS and progressing through LS+, LT and then topping out at with the LTZ.

All models will be powered by the same 110kW/245Nm 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit and is mated to a six-speed auto in all variants while only the base LS has a manual option.

The Astra sedan LS manual is priced from $20,490 before on-road costs or $21,990 as part of a driveaway offer. The auto version is $21,490 or $23,9990 driveaway.

An LS grade Astra sedan comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, reversing camera with rear parking sensors, auto headlights, a 7.0-inch touchscreen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Stepping up to the LS+ grade will cost potential buyers $22,740 before on-road costs or $24,990 driveaway.

The extra cash will get you LED daytime running lights, a leather steering wheel, auto highbeam and a range of safety equipment including lane  keep assist, forward collision alert and a forward distance indicator.

For $25,790 or $27,990 driveaway, buyers can step in to an LT variant which comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and ignition, rain sensing wipers, park assist, blind spot alert, heated side mirrors, 8.0-inch touchscreen with navigation and DAB+ digital radio.

Which leaves the range-topping LTZ which is priced from $29,790 before on-road costs with no driveaway offer.

On top of the LT the LTZ will come equipped with; 18-inch alloys, an electric sunroof, leather trimmed heated seats and exterior chrome touches.

Despite receiving a five-star ANCAP safety rating, the Astra sedan was called out for not offering autonomous emergency braking - either as standard or as an option - even though it is fitted on several Astra hatch variants.

The Holden Astra sedan goes on sale from July 1.
