2012 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID
Toyota Australia's all-new Camry line-up is now complete, with the debut this week of the new 2012 Camry Hybrid.
Like its petrol-powered siblings and its pioneering predecessor, the new Camry Hybrid is built in Australia for local sale, and for export to the Middle East and other markets.
Kicking off at $34,990 plus on-roads - $2000 less than the outgoing model - Toyota says that buyers can look forward to a boost in power, fuel economy and features.
Mechanical Package
For 2012, the new Camry Hybrid is powered by an Atkinson-cycle 2.5 litre petrol engine, replacing the existing 2.4 litre engine.
Combined as part of Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive system, the engine and electric motors develop 151kW and 213Nm of torque, with fuel consumption listed at 5.2 l/100km on the combined cycle.
Paired with the CVT automatic transmission, Toyota claims the Camry Hybrid will return figures of 5.7 l/100km in city driving, down from 6.9 l/100km, and highway figures of 4.9 l/100km, down from 5.2 l/100km.
Using one-third less fuel on the combined cycle than the petrol Camry, Toyota says that with fuel at $1.50 a litre, someone travelling 20,000km each year could save $2340 over three years.
