2012 BMW 125i & M Sport package available in Australia
The BMW 1-Series hatch range has received a performance boost, with the introduction of the flagship 125i and the availability of the M Sport package for all but the base model in Australia.
As reported by CarAdvice last month, the new BMW 125i scores a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 160kW of power (at 5000rpm) and 310Nm of torque (from 1350rpm).
The result is a premium hot hatch that accelerates from 0-100km/h in 6.4 seconds when teamed with the standard six-speed manual transmission, and 6.5 seconds with the optional eight-speed auto. The manual has a top speed of 245km/h.
The added performance pushes fuel consumption out by 12 per cent compared with the 118i, but at 6.6 litres per 100km for the manual, the 125i is still a frugal package.
Added features in the 125i over the rest of the line-up include 17-inch star spoke alloy wheels, leather sports steering wheel and variable sports steering tuned to enhance the car’s dynamic appeal.
Also available to Australian 1-Series customers is the M Sports package. For $5385, the pack adds the M aerodynamics kit, 18-inch M alloy wheels, M Sports suspension, M leather steering wheel, sports seats with Dakota leather upholstery, high-gloss shadow line and anthracite roof liner.
M Sport cars also get an additional Sport + setting in the driver’s Experience Control system. The package can be further enhanced with exclusive options, including Estoril Blue metallic paint, brake package and reduced prices for the adaptive M suspension.
The M Sport package is available on the 118d, 118i and 125i, but not the base model 116i.
