2011 to 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee recall: 43,000 cars could stop suddenly, replacement parts delayed

A recall notice has been issued for 43,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles on Australian roads because they could stop suddenly. Owners face a nervous wait as there is a delay on replacement parts.

US car-giant Jeep has recalled 43,396 examples of its 2011-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee – all diesel-powered variants sold in Australia over the 11-year period – because the engine could stop suddenly.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing defect, the high-pressure fuel pump could fail prematurely and introduce failed component debris into the fuel system.

"This could impair the fuel supply to the engine and result in a loss of power whilst driving.

"A loss of power while driving could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders.

"Owners of affected vehicles are advised that parts are currently not available. (Jeep) will contact owners when parts are available."

As with all recalls, the repair is free of charge.

A spokesperson for Jeep Australia told Drive there have been no reported instances of sudden engine failures locally.

The spokesperson was not able to provide an estimate of when the replacement parts will become available.
