Joe Jonas drives some fairly unexpected cars

From a Fisker Karma to a Moke and a classic Ford Falcon, Joe Jonas doesn't seem to have a type when it comes to cars.

If you've been swiping through entertainment news stories this week, you've likely seen the name Joe Jonas pop up more than a few times.

The American pop star, who is a member of popular boy band the Jonas Brothers, is making headlines over his rumoured divorce from his wife, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner.

We're not in the business of celebrity gossip, but it did pique our interest in Jonas, who has an estimated net worth of $US50 million ($AU77.4 million) and a vast and varied car collection.

The intriguing thing about Jonas is that his love of cars appears unconfined to brand, powertrain or even era, with the singer owning everything from classic American cars, to rare plug-in hybrids, to modern convertibles.

Here, a look at five of the most unexpected cars in Joe Jonas' collection.

Fisker Karma

This unusual electric car might seem pretty dated compared with the plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) of today, but it was cutting-edge when Jonas was first spotted driving it back in 2012.

Fisker is an American electric car maker and the Karma was a luxury plug-in hybrid sedan that was priced from $US102,000 back when it launched in 2011. It offered roughly 51km of electric-only range.

The upmarket PHEV had a few famous fans – Ashton Kutcher and Leonardo DiCaprio were both spotted behind the wheel of a Karma.

Production of the Karma ceased in 2012, not long before Fisker Automotive filed for bankruptcy. Today, the company exists as Fisker Inc after founder Henrik Fisker raised funding for a proper comeback in 2020.

Ford Falcon

Jonas spotted his 1963 Ford Falcon on a friend's Instagram account and fell in love with it, because his late Grandfather used to drive something similar.

In 2018, the 34-year-old teamed up with Californian customisation shop West Coast Customs to restore the fixer-upper, opting for tuxedo-inspired black-and-white paint job, new interior, new sound system and his Grandfather's name painted on the glovebox.

"This car feels more special than some flashy car I could come up with," Jonas said after seeing the final result.

Electric Moke

Jonas and his wife, Sophie Turner, were also spotted taking an all-electric Moke for a spin on a number of occasions in 2021.

Opting for a matte black version of the revamped retro beach buggy, the couple were seen tootling around Los Angeles.

While the Moke brand was recently relaunched in Europe with electric-only offerings, Jonas and Turner's Moke EV appears to be a custom build from company Moke America.

Tesla Model X

One of the more "normal" cars in Jonas' garage is a Tesla Model X electric SUV.

Jonas chose to add a little X-factor to the popular EV by teaming up, once again, with West Coast Customs to give it a matte black finish, possibly alongside other unknown modifications.

The most interesting thing about Jonas' Tesla, however, is what's inside.

"I even have a little mobile gym in my Tesla, which came in handy on set the other day," the singer told GQ magazine in 2021.

Ford Thunderbird

Another Ford in Jonas' collection is the 1960 Ford Thunderbird convertible.

It appears Jonas shares custody of the drop-top with his younger brother, Nick, who has also been spotted behind the wheel of the car, which is finished in Monte Carlo red with a black leather interior.

Jonas and Turner have even used the T-Bird to pick up pizzas.
