The best-equipped family SUV in 2023 is…

Which seven-seat family SUV in Australia comes with the most equipment for your spend?

When you're shopping for a family SUV, it's likely certain features will be more important to you than others.

With that in mind, it pays to know what equipment you'll be getting for your spend.

As part of Drive's seven-seat family SUV test, we assessed 12 top-selling models on the interior equipment they offer, assigning every vehicle a ranking based on standard inclusions.

Our scoring noted the inclusion of features like climate control, heated seats, wireless charging and leather upholstery.

We also tallied other amenities such as the number of cupholders, ISOFIX points, USB ports, 12-volt plugs and tie-down points and hooks in the boot of each vehicle.

Here are the top three best-equipped of the bunch, according to our calculations...

1st Place: Hyundai Palisade Highlander

In top-spec Highlander guise, the Hyundai Palisade is bursting with equipment, ticking nearly every single box on the test list. This vehicle only received strikes against two items – the lack of third-row air vents or a flexible boot floor.

Otherwise, the extra-large SUV boasts an astonishing 16 cupholders, four separate 12-volt ports, and seven USB ports, and it caters to the front seat and second row with seat heating and ventilation, plus power adjustable front seats.

What's more, this car gets keyless entry, a full-sized spare wheel, retractable sun blinds for the second row and a power tailgate.

2nd Place: Kia Sorento GT-Line

The equipment category was a tight race, with the Kia Sorento ranking only half a point behind the Hyundai Palisade in scoring.

Kia's large SUV features heated seats in the front and second row, sun blinds in the second row, a whopping eight separate USB ports, and was the only car on test with ISOFIX mounting points for four child seats.

Curiously, though, it has ventilation controls in the third row but no fan or climate controls in the second row, while seat ventilation can only be found in the front row.

3rd Place: Toyota Kluger GXL

The Toyota Kluger's equipment list includes all the basics and then some, like air vents extending to the third row and individual climate controls for the middle row.

The Kluger boasts underfloor storage in the boot, which is handy for hiding items, plus a cargo blind, full-sized spare wheel and six boot tie-down points in total to secure your luggage.

Notably, the Kluger misses out on a wireless phone charger and remote fold-down seat releases, which you'll find are standard in most of the vehicles in this test.
