Nissan is resolute in its quest to provide the world with a high-performance zero emissions vehicle - and they really want you to notice.

Enter the BladeGlider, an unusual electric vehicle with a long nose, narrow front track, and McLaren F1-esque 1+2 cabin configuration.

The BladeGlider idea isn’t entire new, Nissan has been working on variations of it since 2010 when it first introduced the DeltaWing, a Nissan-powered race chassis designed by Ben Bowlby.

In 2013 an all-Nissan BladeGlider Concept paved the way for the current car, featuring lightweight construction, downforce generating bodywork, and an electric in-wheel drivetrain.

Now Nissan has revealed not one, but two BladeGlider prototype vehicles in Brazil.

The prototypes hold on to the aerodynamically optimised narrow front and wide rear track, and feature a pair of rear-hinged dihedral doors that open like a set of wings.

Built with the assistance of Williams Advanced Engineering, the BladeGlider is powered by two 130kW electric motors (with a combined 200kW output), one for each wheel, and is capable of completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in under five seconds.

"These prototypes epitomize Nissan's drive to expand its Intelligent Mobility strategy, where driving pleasure combines with environmental responsibility. Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said.

“Nissan believes that enthusiasts should look forward to a zero emission future and Nissan BladeGlider is a perfect demonstration of that. It's the electric vehicle for car lovers."

The open cockpit takes a minimalist approach, but features a seamless cockpit windscreen, secondary screens that relay rear view information from guard mounted cameras, and a central display for relaying speed, battery state, and regeneration information.

Each seat is fitted with a four-point safety harness, and is trimmed in a combination of either Cyber Green or Stealth Orange and black fabric, with an epoxy resin coating providing high levels of grip for when things get hectic.
