McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray is believed to be behind the design of a new sports car concept by Yamaha.

The Japanese manufacturer has released a single teaser image of its new concept for the Tokyo Motor Show, but revealed nothing further about the project.

The UK’s Autocar however is reporting that Murray is behind the new concept, following his work with Yamaha in designing the Motiv.e city car concept which debuted at the Tokyo show in 2013.

Japanese press reports earlier this year predicted the Motiv.e was destined for a showroom debut in Europe before the end of 2019, but whether this new concept also previews a road-going model or not remains to be seen.

The teaser image shows a two-door coupe design with perhaps a wraparound rear window and protruding tail lamps. It is a likely contender in the (very) ‘small’ sports car category, but Yamaha has not confirmed this.
