Whoops: Lamborghini Aventador Roadster Confirmed By US EPA

It's getting harder to keep a secret in the manufacturing world, thanks in no small part to the number of government hoops to jump through before any product can see light of day.

The latest victim of the transparent approval process is Lamborghini. News has surfaced this week that the US Environmental Protection Agency is holding documents confirming the inevitable: a Roadster version of the all-new Aventador is en route.

Reports in the past week have pointed to 'inside sources' confirming development of the Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster, but until now, nothing had been confirmed.

According to US government website FuelEconomy.gov, the Aventador Roadster will arrive in time for the 2012 model year, suggesting either a late 2011 or early 2012 unveiling.

Power for the Roadster will come from the same 515kW 6.5 litre V12 driving the current hardtop, which rockets to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds.

With the Aventador Roadster on the way, how far away can Ferrari's 458 Spider be?
