Australia is about to wrap-up another record-breaking year for new car sales. But, get this, China sold almost as many SUVs in one month as Australia's annual total.

Those sort of numbers do put into perspective why - with high salaries and generous conditions (holiday loadings, sick leave, maternity leave, rostered days off etc) - vehicle manufacturing in Australia became unsustainable even for the might of Toyota, Ford and GM.
