Volkswagen will premiere a refreshed take on its compact Saveiro pickup, based again on Volkswagen Brazil’s ‘Gol’ range.
Versions of the small Gol have been offered in South America since the early 80s, with the current Polo-based Gol hatch, sedan and Saveiro ute launching there in 2009.
This week, Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the coming ‘Surf’ pack for the Gol range’s Saveiro ute, described for now as a concept.
The refreshed compact pickup gets Volkswagen’s new styling themes, along with a honeycomb grille pattern, smoked lights, a surf graphics package, 15-inch alloys and aluminium pedals in the cabin.
In South America, the Saveiro is powered exclusively by a 77kW 1.6 litre bi-fuel engine, matched to a five-speed manual and a front-wheel-drive layout.
Volkswagen also revealed a new crew-cab version of the Saveiro earlier this year, adding a second row of seats and, in Cross form, a number of sports-themed styling tweaks to the exterior.
Like the Surf, the ‘Doble Cabina’ model is offered only in 1.6 bi-fuel, five-speed manual and front-wheel-drive form.
Neither model is planned for a wider global launch.
