Volkswagen has pulled the wraps this week from its new Golf R performance wagon, debuting as a tasty new option for the Golf line.

Expanding well beyond the bounds of the original Mk4 Golf R32 and its successors in the Mk5 and Mk6 lines, this new Mk7 is the first Golf wagon to wear the R badge.

TMR first spied the camouflaged Golf R wagon back in May and, as expected, the new load lugger is driven by the same 221kW and 380Nm 2.0 litre turbo four that powers its ‘regular’ hatch sibling.

Volkswagen promises a 5.1 second 0-100km/h time for the hotted-up six-speed DSG-only (at this stage) wagon, which falls just 0.2 seconds shy of the hatch’s run.
