Volkswagen is reportedly preparing to send a road-ready version of its Golf R 400 concept down the production line, with the 295kW AWD hatch supposedly greenlit by the German automaker.

Since making its debut earlier this year at the Beijing Auto Show the Golf R 400 concept has already been rumoured to be destined for VW showrooms, however the latest report from British mag Car says that we will see the production version go on sale in Europe late next year.

Car also says the production version will wear a Golf R 420 badge on its tailgate, indicating that power from the 2.0 litre EA888 engine could rise to an even more incredible 309kW, or 420 metric horsepower.
