Volvo has confirmed the V40 name for its upcoming five-door hatch/wagon. This follows comments last year from the carmaker's boss, Stefan Jacoby, that left little doubt as to the new car's identity.
With a debut scheduled for next month's Geneva Motor Show, a teaser campaign for the V40 has kicked off this week - starting with an animated video that reveals... well, nothing.
However, an earlier teaser shot, and TMR's recent spy photos, offer a solid look at the V40's profile, along with its S60/V60-inspired design and profile.
As a new entrant in the C-segment small car market, the V40 will act as a companion to the three-door C30 in the short term, and likely as a preview to a new three-door model in the future.
Along with the wagon and the smaller three-door, a crossover compact SUV is also expected to figure in Volvo's small-car line-up, so keep an eye out for spy photos of a high-riding XC30 or XC40.
Drivetrains for the V30/V40 will likely include Volvo's new stop-start and rear-axle kinetic energy regeneration systems. Volvo says the latter technology can give the vehicle an extra 60kW of power when needed - depending on the model.
Watch for the new small Volvo to appear in Geneva next month.
