Volvo's new heavy-hitter S60 Polestar Performance Concept (PC) has made its debut this week, unveiled at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
Produced as a one-off concept for a private client, Polestar's S60 PC extracts more power out of the regular T6 flagship, courtesy of an overhauled drivetrain and a bigger turbo.
Power is rated at a hefty 380kW - up from 224kW for the T6 R-Design, and 242kW for the 'regular' Polestar enhancement package available in Australia.
Among the 3.0 litre six-cylinder engine's tweaks are a modified cylinder head and combustion chambers, along with work to the inlet manifold and air intake.
A larger Garret 3171 turbo has also been bolted in, and torque is up to 575Nm - compared to 440Nm in the car's regular form.
As with the regular T6, power is sent to all four wheels, but the six-speed auto has been replaced with a reinforced six-speed manual. Polestar promises a 0-60mph (96km/h) time of 3.9 seconds.
The whole package has been lowered 30mm on new Ohlins suspension, and the guards have been widened by 20mm at both ends to accommodate the larger 19-inch wheels, 380mm Brembo brakes and 265/30 tyres.
There's also reinforced anti-roll bars and stabilising X members at the front and rear, modified control arms, reinforced bushings and strengthened engine mounts.
Inside, there's Polestar sports seats with boosted bolstering, along with Alcantara trim to the seats, steering wheel and shifter.
“Polestar’s heart and soul is motorsport and our main focus is to deliver the absolute best results for Volvo on the track,” Polestar founder Christian Dahl said.
“But over the years we have also seen a significant increase in demand for Volvo performance cars and parts and naturally we want to respond to this.”
Will we see the S60 Polestar Performance Concept enter production? At the car's unveiling, the tuning outfit would say only that "a small series of Polestar modified S60s may be built pending market response".
If this concept does find its way to limited production, don't hold your breath on any of them coming to Australia.
