Volvo's Polestar-built S60 Performance Concept, revealed last week at the Le Mans 24 Hour race, is a one-off sedan with true supercar power.

Producing a prodigious 380kW and 575Nm of torque, the S60 PC promises a 0-100km time of 3.9 seconds, rivalling just about anything with four doors.

Along with a bigger turbo, strengthened engine and transmission, and a host of performance parts, this race-derived sedan is one of the most impressive things to wear a Volvo badge in recent memory.

But it doesn't come cheap. Courtesy of its massively enhanced drivetrain and body, and its status as a custom project, the S60 PC reportedly carries a US$300,000 price tag.

According to enthusiast website Pistonheads, the project was built for an American customer who has agreed not to take delivery of the car until Volvo and Polestar have finished showing it off to fans and the press.

Polestar says it hasn't written off the idea of producing more properly-high-performance versions of the S60, but it remains to be seen if it would aim to replicate the performance of the PC, or bring the power - and price - a little closer to M3 and C 63 AMG territory.

For now, European and American buyers with US$300,000 to burn could consider the still-quick S60 T6... and an Audi R8 to park beside it.
