Volvo has announced a partnership with tech giant Google to push better connectivity with Google’s Android brand.

The Chinese-owned Swedish carmaker says the next generation of in-car connectivity and infotainment will heavily feature Android usability, including a “wide array of apps and services”.

Besides Volvo and Google-developed apps, the system will also invite third parties to develop their own apps to better the in-car experience.

“We are making an important strategic step with the Google partnership,” Volvo’s Henrik Green said.

“Google’s platform and services will enhance the user experience by enabling more personalisation possibilities, while Android will offer increased flexibility from a development perspective.”

Volvo said a partnership with Google was the best way forward, as cars become more ‘connected’ and such partnerships become increasingly necessary.
