Volvo is planning to update all of its front-wheel-drive models for the 2016 model-year, with all to receive the carmaker’s Drive-E engines.

The V40, V60 and V70 (currently unavailable in Australia), along with the S60 and XC60 are all included in the planned update, with both petrol- and diesel-powered four-cylinder units to be Drive-E spec.

The Drive-E program is based on petrol and diesel engines with a capacity of 2.0 litres and a four-cylinder layout, which kicked off with the T5 and T6 petrol units and the D4 diesel in various models from late 2013.

T4 and D5 engines have been added since, and now Volvo will add the T2 and T3 petrol units and the D2 and D3 diesel options to the Drive-E range.

In various markets, some V40s will switch to Drive-E T2 and T3 engines in 1.5 litre guise making 91 and 113kW respectively, while D2 and D3 diesels will be good for 90 and 112kW.
