Volkswagen's lilliputian Up city car has hit Australia this week, creating a new $13,990 (plus on-roads) entry point into the German carmaker's line-up.
Officially in showrooms from October 6, the Up slips in beneath the light Polo hatch, re-priced earlier this year with a new $16,990 base model.
The Up will be offered in Australia with three- and five-door options, one trim level, and one tiny three-cylinder engine.
Engines
Power for the Up is provided by a 1.0 litre three-cylinder petrol engine, producing 55kW and 95Nm of torque.
Mated to a five-speed manual transmission only, the Up's fuel use is listed at a low 4.9 l/100km (but runs on 95RON premium unleaded only) with a claimed 0-100km/h sprint of 13.2 seconds.
Features and Dimensions
Standard features in the Up include 14-inch steel wheels and a full-size spare, air conditioning, power windows, heated front seats and height-adjustable steering, and six-speaker MP3-compatible audio.
There's only the one trim grade, but there is more than a few options available.
Among them is the $500 Maps and More pack, a portable display that plugs into the top of the dash and can be used away from the vehicle.
