Volkswagen Australia’s big Touareg SUV has come in for a 2015 model-year update, adding new standard features and a streamlined options list.
Those new features don’t come free, however: kicking off from $67,990 plus on-roads, the refreshed 2015 range cops a $4000 premium over the outgoing range.
New equipment with the entry 150TDI model includes satellite navigation, voice recognition, media storage and a DVD player, along with the Multi-Collision braking system.
Other standard features include leather-trimmed seats (heated and powered up front), front and rear parking sensors with rear-view camera, 60:40 split-folding rear seats that can be controlled from the luggage space, and new 18-inch alloys.
The 150kW 150TDI is also now more torquey, upping twist from 400 to 450Nm from 1250 to 2750rpm. Fuel consumption is listed at 7.2 l/100km.
Moving up to the V6 TDI, now $1200 more expensive at $81,990 plus on-roads, adds new ‘Nappa’ leather trim (heated and powered up front), air suspension with adaptive damping control, alarm system, tilt sensor and central locking, a powered tailgate, 20-inch alloys and ‘Sapelli’ mahogany highlights in the cabin.
The V6 TDI is powered by a 180kW/550Nm 3.0 litre turbodiesel engine. Fuel consumption is listed at 7.4 l/100km.
V6 TDI buyers can also option the $3500 Technology and $5400 Driver Assistance packages.
The Technology pack adds Area View, 360 degree exterior view; electrically adjustable door mirrors, front seats and steering wheel with memory function, automatic kerb view function when reversing via the passenger’s side exterior mirror, larger 100 litre fuel tank, keyless entry and starter button.
Driver Assistance adds Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Front Assist function and City Emergency brake (City EB), heated and multi-function leather steering wheel, proactive occupant protection system and Side Assist, and lane-changing assistant.
Topping the range again is the $114,990 V8 TDI R-Line, adding sports styling inside and out with 21-inch alloys, along with steering-mounted shift paddles, ‘Nappa’ leather interior, dark tinted windows, 620W audio with 12 speakers, and aluminium highlights in the cabin. The Technology and Driver Assistance packs are also standard.
The V8 TDI 250kW/800Nm 4.2 litre V8 turbodiesel. Fuel consumption is listed at 9.2 l.100km.
An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard across the range.
