Volkswagen Australia has confirmed that it will be expanding its line-up of sporty R-Line models, with both the Tiguan SUV and Golf Wagon to get the R-Line treatment for the 2015 model year.

The R-Line trim-packages give each model a sportier stance through lowered suspension and larger alloy wheels, while bumpers, grilles, sideskirts and spoilers are also unique to R-Line models.

When the trim package is added to the Tiguan and Golf Wagon's respective options list, the total number of R-Line models will rise to five. Currently, the Beetle, Golf hatch and Touareg large SUV are available in R-Line form.

The R-Line package costs $2000 for Beetle buyers, and $2200 when adding it to a Golf Highline variant. Expect a similar surcharge for the Golf Wagon R-Line and Tiguan R-Line.

For the Touareg, R-Line trim is only available on the $114,990 flagship Touareg V8 TDI (above), which features it as standard.

The Tiguan will also get some new equipment for 2015. A rear-view camera will be added to all variants as standard, as will an updated touchscreen display and rear parking sensors.

A powerful 130kW turbo diesel engine will also be introduced to the Tiguan range next year, complementing the existing 103TDI model.

VW is also keen to improve its fortunes in the small sedan segment, and will roll out an updated Jetta range for the 2015 model year. The Passat will get minor updates around the same time.

Scirocco R To Continue

Volkswagen Australia also confirmed that the Scirocco R will continue to be offered in Australia, with the brand deciding that the high-powered FWD hot hatch was worth keeping alongside the Golf GTI and Golf R.

"We announced that we were reviewing a range of products, and decided to discontinue the Up and EOS, and at that time announced that we were considering stopping production on the Scirocco R as well," VW Australia spokesman Karl Gehling said to TMR.

"But after this announcement we got a lot of feedback through dealers and social media to maintain production of the car.

"So we decided to keep with the Scirocco R and give a facelift to the model, not only because of its volume impact on the brand, but also because of what it expresses emotionally about the rest of the range."

"For us it's a very good product. It's unique, very distinctive on the road, gives the brand more emotion, and it gives customers an appealing two-door option."

"The number of enquiries that we get on that car is amazing."

The updated Scirocco R will be joined by the latest version of the Polo GTI in the first half of 2015.
