Volkswagen has at last made official its long-known plans to build a new seven-seat SUV in the US at its plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Inspired by the large CrossBlue concept revealed early last year, the new wagon will be aimed primarily at North America, where it will be marketed as a medium SUV.

Volkswagen’s Australian arm has confirmed its interest in the new model, but for now the SUV will be built in left-hand-drive form only. No plans for right-hand-drive production have been confirmed.
