Volkswagen has expanded its range of sporty R-Line models in Australia, with the addition this week of the Golf Wagon and Tiguan.

The new models join the existing Golf hatch, Touareg and Beetle R-Line variants, arriving two months after Volkswagen Australia first announced the move.

Volkswagen says the new arrivals each bring their own unique list of specifications, with styling tweaks in line with the rest of the R-Line range.

The Golf Wagon R-Line is available as an option package on the 103kW/250Nm petrol-powered 103TSI and the 110kW/320Nm diesel-powered 110TDI models; both Highline spec.

R-Line Golf Wagons get 18-inch ‘Salvador’ alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, revised front and rear bumpers and R-Line badging.

The suspension gets a sports tune on the R-Line Wagon, which also brings “a noticeably more direct and agile” progressive steering system.

Inside, there’s a sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, R-Line interior trim, sports seats and stainless steel pedals.

Tiguan R-Line buyers can expect similar exterior styling tweaks, with the package available on 132kW/280Nm 132TSI and 130kW/380Nm 130TDI models.

The 132TSI and 130TDI R-Lines get 18-inch ‘Mallory’ alloy wheels, front door-sill plates, R-Line interior features including steering wheel with paddle shifters and sports suspension.

The Tiguan is also available as a petrol-powered ‘stand-alone’ 155TSI R-Line model, lifting power from the 2.0 litre engine to 155kW and adding Adaptive Chassis Control.

The 155TSI gets all interior R-Line options from the lower-spec models, but replaces the cloth-trimmed seats with leather.

Volkswagen’s Scirocco R model will continue alongside the new R-Line range, following strong feedback from buyers and dealers to maintain the model.
