Volkswagen has recalled its 2015 and 2016 Passat Wagon models, due to a potential problem with the sunroof.

The carmaker has identified a problem with the electronic closing mechanism in the roof, which may be allowed to exceed specified limits when closed using the remote key.

If this occurs, a risk of injury is present to occupants if limbs are placed in the open space during the roof-closing procedure.

Volkswagen says around 700 examples of the Passat Wagon are affected by the recall in Australia.

Last month, Volkswagen Australia began the voluntary recall program aimed at correcting the mess visited upon it by the now-infamous emissions scandal.

The Amarok pickup is the first model to be recalled by the carmaker’s local arm under the program, with a total of 8694 vehicles on the list.

Volkswagen will attempt to contact affected Passat owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer or call Volkswagen on 1800 504 076.
