Strictly a Paris Motor Show concept car at this stage, the significance of this Volkswagen electric car called the I.D. is that it showcases the generic look of the German giant’s first all-electric fleet.

Volkswagen says it first ground-up all-electric vehicle will be on-sale in 2020.

It will use Wolfsburg’s ‘MEB’ electric vehicle platform and will apparently debut in conjunction with the all-electric version of the all-new eighth-generation Golf (at Volkswagen all roads lead to the Golf).

We’ll know more technical details on the I.D. after Volkswagen’s official reveal in a few days in Paris, but word is power comes from a 125kW electric motor providing a range between battery re-charges of between 400kms-600kms.

The four-seater is rumoured to provide interior space to rival Volkswagen’s mid-size Passat.

And the Paris unveiling will also provide a substantial look at Volkswagen’s autonomous driving technology with the I.D. said to have full ‘I.D. Pilot’ technology including a retractable steering wheel.

Volkswagen has previously stated its autonomous technology will be on-sale from 2025.
