Volkswagen has recalled model year 2016 and 2017 Golf Wagon and Passat models regarding a software error that could affect exterior lights.

Volkswagen describes the fault as causing either non-functioning dipped beam or high beam headlights, daytime running lights, rear fog lights or indicator bulbs to not be indicated to the driver. Alternatively functioning lights may incorrectly signal as having failed.

The fault may lead to poor visibility for both the vehicle occupants or other road users, particularly in low light conditions or at night.
