Volkswagen’s iconic Golf GTI has celebrated its 40th birthday, and the German carmaker has unveiled a powered-up special edition model to mark the occasion.
Meet the new GTI Clubsport; which packs as much as 213kW from its 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine thanks to an ‘over-boost’ function which can run for up to ten seconds.
The rest of the time, the Clubsport makes do with 195kW but this is enough to see the hot hatch hit 100km/h from rest in 5.9 seconds with the six-speed DSG automatic transmission.
Opting for the six-speed manual adds 0.1 seconds to the 0-100km/h time, and Volkswagen says the manual also drinks more fuel... but only a tad.
