Volkswagen Developing 5 Series-Fighting Sedan: Report

Volkswagen is working on a large car to fit into the gap between the Passat and the Phaeton (pictured), if the rumour-mongers at German mag Auto Bild are to be believed.

It won't be a new version of the CC though, the Passat's slightly larger, lower-roofed brother.

When it arrives, VW's "Super Passat" will reportedly be offered in both five-door hatchback and wagon body styles, which sounds suspiciously similar to the configuration already offered by the Skoda Superb.

But Auto Bild reports that VW's new large car won't be based on its Czech cousin, and instead will use either the Audi A6's MLB or the next-gen Passat's MQB platform as its foundation.
